Vegan Nick Kyrgios Emerges as Activist and Philanthropist
One of Professional Tennis’s Top Players and Most Colorful Personalities Speaks out for Animal Welfare
Sheeps is glad to learn that Nick Kyrgios was motivated to become vegan out of compassion for animals and we appreciate that his resolve was hardened having observed the effects of the wildfires in his native Australia.
In the Athlete’s Voice Blog, he recently wrote, “I don’t eat meat or dairy anymore. That’s not for my health, I just don’t believe in eating animals. Seeing the footage of these animals suffering with the fires only reinforces why I’ve chosen this diet. When I see these terrible photos, I can’t comprehend eating meat.”
Kyrgios pledged to contribute $200 for every ace he served in the Australian Open to wildfire relief efforts. Having just been edged in a tantalizing match against #1 seed Rafael Nadal in the fourth round, he served a total of 100 aces in the tournament, amounting to a $20,000 contribution.
Sheeps is hopeful that Kyrgios will soon be playing with Sheeps vegan tennis balls, slated for release later in 2020. For updates about this product and plans for additional vegan and environmentally sound tennis products, please join the Sheeps mailing list.
